There’s this scene in Oh Darling Yeh Hai India (1995), where Shah Rukh Khan is caught outside the villain’s den, and is being interrogated on what he’s seen. He pretends to play blind, and starts hamming, ‘Maine kuch nahin dekha! Sholay Tribute 1: ‘Bahut Yaarana Lagta Hai!’

A 5 year old watched it in Madras, without knowing any Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan or even Hindi – and a lifelong affair started with the movie. And with movies!

At the time when Sholay released (15 August, 1975), we lived in Madras. In my dad’s office, they had this club that used to organise family movie outings for all employees. This was one such occasion. My dad, himself, had just received his transfer orders to Delhi, and had gone there for the house hunting, etc., and couldn’t make it.
